Mi16 in the place it was born… in the 405. We see so many in modded 205’s, yet not very many remain in 405’s.

Good for going shopping too! Evo spoiler on a 405 you must be joking. Must be… it can’t be … bloody hell… it is!

You wouldn’t even recognize this car from the front as even being a 405. The smoothness of the from bumper deceives.

To install the Ecotek, you need to cut the hose from the brake pump to the throttle housing and attach the Ecotek to the ends of these already cut hose (meaning now the Ecotek is somewhat in the middle of the hose.

The hole I cut is at the bottom of the air box (before the filter since the air from the the front (modified in my car) goes to the bottom of the airbox, through the filter, then up into the pvc piping into the throttle), therefore you can achieve two things: 1) Ecotek gets cooler air 2) No noise.

Economy:
I Installed Ecotek and saw good results (20+% reduction in fuel consumption), especially during long distance trips. Pen-KL only used 1/4 tank at cruising speed (~120km/hr) and ~ 1/3 tank at ~ 160km/hr. There is a slight noise impact since I did not buy the air filter with it. Instead I made a hole at the bottom of the air box and put the Ecotek through it - no more noise! - Charles Couteau

I've installed it and i really recommended that u try this product. it's value for your car, esp. for fuel consumption and performance (also emission-but i can't measure it). after u have install, perfectly u can feel the different. I don't really bother what people say about fuel saver but for me it was a good buy for my 306.

"The Ecotek CB-26P is a non-return valve and it fits on your intake manifold vacuum hose to creating an air vortex within the manifold, keeping the fuel suspended in the air. When there's a lot of manifold vacuum this device is at its peak operation and through creating the swirl of air it means the fuel is less likely to stick to the intake walls, hence it promotes better mixture which in turn gives your engine a bigger, better bang." What is SUCTION TURBO (SURBO)?

Suction Turbo is a add-on device that will gives power and energy to maximum
acceleration power on the lower gears or higher gear and can bring fuel saving
up to 10 percent or even more depending how and where you drive.
When the Surbo activated, it able to gives a Light Pressure Power up to
0.3bar and you just need to press half of throttle to Redline.the Surbo
work on all manual cars, so don't miss this great opportunity.

406 - Performance Enhancement By Charles Couteau couteau@time.net.my (Penang)

A few tips to those 406 owners who wants extra oomph from their cars. These are tried and tested methods conducted over the two years that I drive my company car and most of these mods can be transfered to your new car should you want to replace the highly underrated but actually excellent car:

Handling:
Replace to 17" Roh Adrenelin (Australian made) rims + Yokohama 45 series Aspec dB

Benefits= Stick like glue on highway corners even at 180+ km/hr, even more so at city streets. To minimise impact on noise and comfort, the Aspec dB is a good choice or try the ES100 (both Yokohama tyres). Of course the car looks way cool with these rims!

Performance:
Engine:
Installed FSE Power Boost Valve c/w adapter and set the fuel pressure lower than stock @ 2.6 bar with aircon off. At our ambient temperatures, the fuel/air mixture tends to be rich since at higher temperatures, the air is less dense. Rich mixture does not mean higher power instead it should be at the optimum mixture so you get complete combustion.

I also installed PowerPass, a small vacuum activated device which switch off the a/c compressor during hand acceleration (can be set, I set it at 1/4 from minimum). Compressors are said to take 10-15% of your engine power.

Benefits= Faster pick up at any speed (standing start, mid and high speed), smoother gear change (I do not know why but my auto box used to change rather abruptly on the downshifts but now is smoother), and lower fuel consumption due to leaner fuel mixture (but usually equal since the 406 is now MUCH more responsive and fun to drive).

Pls note that FSE power boost valve is actually a rising rate adjustable fuel regulator. You can buy normal adjustable fuel regulator but it would be the same as stock since the gradient of fuel supply will still be constant. You can read about this on the net. Took me a long time searching for a dyno test proof of the thing, as well as the optimum setting of the pressure (~15% from stock in our weather).

Puginfo comment - FSE is actually a vacuum/boost referenced device, its output pressure is purely determine by the manifold depression condition. At anytime, it has to be set at the prescribed original pressure of 2.5bar and you can set the max press. say 3.5bar. You can pick this regulator at autobags, kelana jaya for rm550 fitted.

Pls take note that with the higher fuel press. logically you will have to keep a close watch on all the fuel hoses, clamps, injector o-rings and of course the fuel pump itself. The higher fuel pressure in itself will not have any effect (in performance) if ignition timing maps are not tampered with equally. Richer fuel will require more timing advance at any rpm. This would be quite tricky as the 406 does not have a distributor system. Fuel economy should be the last or an expunged topic if we should go this way!

Puggy comment - The FSE boost in its actual intention is meant to increase the rate of pressure built up in the fuel rail so tat you have a more quick response on the throttle as oppose to a lethargic one (when the pressure built up is slower, in the original fuel regulator), thus the word pressure boost. This is wat Puginfo explained i think.

However because the FSE has a adjustable maximum pressure facility and wat charles did was to actually reduce the max pressure from 3.0 to 2.5 bar (a step down condition as oppose to a step up pressure the FSE was intended to be). According to Charles, the reason for this is because the higher fuel pressure will result in higher air and fuel mixture (rich) due to the fact that our ambient temperature is higher than in France ( or European countries for tat matter). When the step down condition is applied (when reducing the max pressure), according to charles the air and fuel mixture is leaner and better suit to our environment.

In short, the original air & fuel mixture is too rich and thus he adjusted it via the fuel pressure and thats why Charles has problem starting in the morning the morning temperature is cold as the ECu will pick up this temperature and automatically makes the air & fuel mixture leaner, too lean in this case tat he has to crank longer to start the engine

My question was that even tho the fuel pressure is lowered, wdnt the ECu sense this and compensate it by other means such as the air intake (stepper motor).

Air intake:

After MYR 21k replacing the engine when I go through a flood (covered by insurance!), I modified the air box by removing all the original piping from the box down to the side of the car. Made an L bend from the air box to the side of the radiator underneath the headlight with PVC piping, insulate the piping with heat insulator and replace the filter to a K&N drop-in type. Tried replacing the box completely with the cone typr filter but induction noise is too noisy.

Exhaust:
Dumped the catalytic converter and installed two mufflers (not bullet type but long straight through box with fibers on the side). I have tried many brands but the longest lasting and least noise yet good performance is the brand "Cat", got a picture of a cat on it!

I own a 405 GTX personally which is a terrific car with great handling and good low end torque. Used to be much more fun to drive than the 406 company car, so I used to alternate driving these cars but now it is 406 all the way!

My objective is to have good performance across all rpm range with handling to match but still maintain comfort & so called luxury (noise, etc). What I wanted is a wolf in a sheep clothing and I think I am very close to achieving the objective.

Next under my consideration is to Superchip the ECU and change the dial to sporty white, will let you know in the future.

ECU SPEEDCHIP for Peugeot.

SpeedChip is made in Germany and is claimed to offer 10bhp and 10% more torque for your car. It is available for Peugeot models equipped with EFI. So this would mean the 2.0 and 1.9 models. However, for the 1.8 model (306) it has not been tested as yet.
